PROCEEDINGS FOR THE
TAYLOR COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
The Taylor County Board of Supervisors met in regular session at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2025. Supervisor Jack Beggs called the meeting to order at 9:06 a m. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Supervisor roll call: Fitzgerald, Watson, and Beggs present. Also present, Auditor Judy Henry, Jim Rowe, Rob Welch and Jared Herschberger.
Fitzgerald made a motion to approve the agenda for today and minutes from the May 15, 2025, meeting. Watson second, MC 3-0.
COMMITTEE REPORT:
Watson had a Heart of Iowa work session. Beggs attended the Black Maple meeting.
PUBLIC COMMENT:
Herschberger updated the Board on the Black Maple progress and stated grants are now open for applicants.
SECONDARY ROAD REPORT:
Rowe presented a Utility Permit for Sellenrick Construction for underground bore near 265th and Jerico Ave. Fitzgerald made a motion to approve the Sellenrick permit. Watson seconded, MC 3-0. Rowe presented a pipe bid from Maryville Culvert Pipe for $84,862.80, no other bids were received. Fitzgerald motioned to accept the Maryville Culvert bid. Watson seconded, MC 3-0.
Rowe presented the claim information on the John Deere tractor and mower. Insurance replacement cost is $105,000 for both pieces of equipment. Rowe obtained quotes for a 2023 John Deere 61M at $137,000 and $146,000 for 6M130. The mower quote was $88,952. The Board held further discussion on the purchase of a water truck
NEW BUSINESS:
A representative from Globe Life Family Heritage Division approached the Board about meeting with Taylor County Employees for supplemental insurance. Watson motioned to allow the rep to contact offices individually. Fitgerald seconded, MC 3-0.
The closed session and Department Head meeting were postponed to May 29, 2025.
OLD BUSINESS:
Culp reported on continued projects and upkeep of the Courthouse. Culp is going to start replacing some of the torn window shades.
The Board approved claims to be paid and discussed items for the next meeting.
Fitzgerald made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Watson seconded, MC 3-0. Meeting adjourned.
