          PROCEEDINGS FOR

TAYLOR COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

FY27 BUDGET PUBLIC HEARING

The Taylor County Board of Supervisors met in special session to conduct the public hearing for the Fiscal Year 2027 Budget on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.  Supervisor Jack Beggs called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m.  The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Supervisor roll call: Beggs, Fitzgerald and Wall present.   Also present, Auditor Judy Henry, Treasurer Dana Davis, IT Amanda Biddenback, Rob Lundquist, Stan Mattes, Shellia Culp and Corey Eberling.

Fitzgerald motioned to approve the agenda for today, Wall seconded, MC 3-0.

PUBLIC COMMENT:

Rob Lundquist wanted to know the reason behind the increased pay raises. Auditor Henry stated she had not asked for a raise in the 21 years she worked here but felt her office staff deserved a higher-than-normal raise due to the increased workload due to state mandates such as HF718. She relayed Taylor County is the lowest paid county in the state of Iowa for overall elected officials.  New Taylor County employees in nonelected offices starting wages are higher than elected offices and we have to use our own personal funds to campaign for election to keep our position.   Treasurer Davis stated the workload is not like it used to be when she was a deputy, she also stated they have many more responsibilities from the state level, testing and added services. Davis also stated her office is a staff of 3 now, not the 4 as it used to be.   Culp relayed when she was hired it was for cleaning but now she is required to sit on committees and file paperwork. Stan Mattes questioned why the County did away with the compensation board. Beggs stated they wanted to try a year without the comp board and department heads wanted to represent themselves.

Wall made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Fitzgerald seconded, MC 3-0.

Meeting adjourned.

The Board of Supervisors approve these unofficial minutes to be published in the local newspapers and upon approval in the Taylor County Board of Supervisors Minute Book:
