FOR TAYLOR COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
Public Hearing on Applications for Wind Energy Conversion
System Project requested by Black Maple Wind, LLC
The Taylor County Board of Supervisors met in special session on August 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. to hold a public hearing to discuss Applications for Wind Energy Conversion System Project requested by Black Maple Wind, LLC. Supervisor Jack Beggs called the meeting to order at 10:06 a.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Supervisor roll call: Fitzgerald, Beggs and Wall present. There were 65 attendees signed up as well as County Employees representing various offices for questions.
Fitzgerald motioned to approve the agenda for the public hearing. Wall seconded, MC 3-0.
Apex employees Matt Eberl and Bre Anderson gave a presentation on the Black Maple Wind LLC project.
Beggs opened up the floor for public comments.
Highlights of public comments included:
Decommissioning responsibility, Bonding, noise pollution, impact on wildlife, impact on health, causes distrust among neighbors, great source of income for community, help with rebuilding roads and bridges that have been closed, Apex employees have been good to work with, Supervisor’s need to look deeper on the effects to citizens, project will be sold once it’s built, request to build berm around substations, population decline, after turbines are resold who will clean up, school enrollment decline and school funding, loss of fossil fuels and natural resources, where is current windmill money being used, power on the grid, double edge sword, schools, cities and county need revenue to survive, cut services, need to study project more, if land owner wasn’t receiving pay outs would they still be for the project, giants hovering over me, take approval to county vote, what if project goes bankrupt, why some easements were released.
Beggs entertained a motion to adjourn. Wall made a motion to adorn, Fitzgerald seconded. MC 3-0.
Meeting adjourned.
