PROCEEDINGS FOR THE
TAYLOR COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
The Taylor County Board of Supervisors met in regular session at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday,
June 12, 2025. Supervisor Jack Beggs called the meeting to order at 9:01 a m. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Supervisor roll call: Fitzgerald, Watson, and Beggs present. Also present, Auditor Judy Henry, Jim Rowe, Rob Welch and Joel Lawrence.
Watson made a motion to approve the agenda for today and minutes from the June 5, 2025, meeting. Fitzgerald second, MC 3-0.
COMMITTEE REPORT:
Watson attended the RC&D meeting.
PUBLIC COMMENT:
None
SECONDARY ROAD REPORT:
Rowe presented a Utility Permit for Bug Tussel Carrier Services near 1080 Utah Ave for a cell tower. Joel Lawrence requested placing a speed limit sign on the South side of Cook St. in the County right of way. Lawrence stated there are several families with small children in the area and cars need to slow down. Rowe will start the process of getting signs placed. Henry presented Resolution 2025-19 Secondary Roads Transfer in the amounts of $297,505.50 for Rural Services, $21,658.25 for General Basic and $34,109.06 out of LOST funds. Watson made a motion to approve Resolution 2025-19. Fitzgerald seconded, MC 3-0. Rowe presented a quote for a 2017 International 7300 water truck for $79,000. Fitzgerald motioned to purchase the truck. Watson seconded, MC 3-0. Rowe presented a quote for a John Deere 6M130 and mower to replace the tractor/mower lost due to fire. Watson motioned to approve the purchase of the John Deere tractor and mower. Fitzgerald seconded, MC 3-0. Watson made a motion to set June 26, 2025, for the fuel letting date. Fitzgerald seconded, MC 3-0.
NEW BUSINESS:
Henry presented a Quit Claim Deed from the County to Brian D. & Marygrace Davenport to clear title on 1 acre in the SE corner of SESE 26-70-32. Watson motioned to approve the transfer. Fitzgerlad seconded, MC 3-0.
Zoie Lecy gave an update on activities at the Conservation Department which included prairie ground development at Windmill Lake, Wilson Lake demo of old toilets and some equipment trade ins. Deputy Sheriff Nate Bucher submitted 3 quotes for a new patrol vehicle. Interceptor for $47,649, Ford Truck for $49, 933 and Expedition for $53,500. Equipment install could cost up to $18,869. Watson made a motion to purchase the Interceptor. Fitzgerald seconded, MC 3-0.
Henry presented the safety inspection for the Iowa Municipal Workman’s Compensation Association. Fitzgerald motioned to approve inspection notes and responses. Watson seconded, MC 3-0.
Paul Anstey, Taylor County Fair Board, requested additional funds for fair project construction and upkeep. The Board tabled the discussion until the Fair Board can provide a list of improvements being made.
A department head meeting was held to review the last chapters of the Handbook.
OLD BUSINESS:
Culp reported on continued projects and upkeep of the Courthouse. Blinds have been ordered for some of the windows in the courthouse.
The Board approved claims to be paid and discussed items for the next meeting.
Watson made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Fitzgerald seconded, MC 3-0. Meeting adjourned.
